Stormflower Vineyard

Silver Lining 2016

Silver Lining 2016
Museum Release

Original tasting notes: A bright, fresh and invigorating sparkling made from 100% Chenin Blanc grapes. Citrus, green apple and subtle underlying creamy notes on the nose. The citrus and apple notes carry through, while the creamy yeast tones add length to the palate. The life and zest of the mousse adds a real vibrancy and freshness to the palate. Time in the cellar will build complexity and interest.

Museum tasting notes: A lot of life in this in 8 year old Crémant. Fine mouse with clean integrated acid and green apple notes leads into mature characters of brasil nut and biscuit with a fresh, rich finish.

Vineyard Notes
Low Winter rainfall and a warm Spring provided a good start to the season. A few Spring storms damaged some of the early growth, but this is the norm in this region. Vine growth was generally strong, and the vines healthy with a moderate crop. A very unusual rain event in mid January, provided 75 – 100 mm of rain over 2 days. The balance of the season was long and mild. As it turned out, the rainfall in the middle of the driest part of the year was a boon to most vines, giving them a mid-season boost. The quality of the whites was exceptional, in particular the Chardonnay in terms of both yield and quality. While the extended exposure of the berries to elements of weather, pests and disease caused yields to suffer, the protracted maturation resulted in wines with remarkable intensity of flavour, and retention of good acid levels.
